To get a taxi at St Pancras International, follow the station signs to the black cab ranks on Midland Road (the west side) or Pancras Road (the side facing King’s Cross). If you have pre-booked a minicab, it can’t use the rank: it collects you from a pick-up point or the driver meets you inside, so agree the meeting point with the operator first. For Eurostar departures, the Pancras Road drop-off zone leads directly to Eurostar departures.
This guide covers both St Pancras and King’s Cross, which sit across Pancras Road from each other. It explains where the ranks and drop-off points are, how a pre-booked car usually meets you, and how to time a Eurostar departure. Station details below come from Network Rail’s station pages and Eurostar, as of October 2026. Layouts change, so check the linked pages before you travel.
St Pancras or King’s Cross: which station are you using?
The two stations are separate buildings a few minutes’ walk apart. Telling your driver the wrong one can cost you time on busy roads.
- St Pancras International handles Eurostar, Thameslink, Southeastern high-speed services to Kent, and East Midlands Railway. According to Network Rail, the station is managed by Network Rail High Speed on behalf of HS1 Ltd, and Eurostar manages platforms 5 to 10 and the international departures area.
- King’s Cross serves the East Coast Main Line to Yorkshire, the North East and Scotland. It is run by Network Rail.
The Underground station, King’s Cross St Pancras, serves both. If you’re not sure which mainline station your train uses, check your ticket before you request a car.
Where are the taxi ranks at St Pancras and King’s Cross?
Taxi ranks are for licensed black cabs, which you can join in a queue without booking. Here is what Network Rail lists, as of October 2026:
| Station | Location | What Network Rail says |
|---|---|---|
| St Pancras | Midland Road (first rank) | Uncovered, on the same side as the station, no help point nearby |
| St Pancras | Midland Road (second rank) | Uncovered; ramps can be deployed from the rear and side of the vehicle |
| St Pancras | Pancras Road | Reached via a controlled road crossing |
| King’s Cross | Pancras Road | Partially covered, on the same side as the station; taxis only pick up here |
If you use a wheelchair and need a ramp from the rear of the vehicle, Network Rail lists the second Midland Road rank as the one where that is possible. Our guide to wheelchair accessible taxis in London covers this in more detail.
Dropping off: where should the car stop?
For Eurostar. Network Rail says a clearly marked passenger drop-off zone on Pancras Road leads directly to Eurostar departures. Blue Badge holders may wait there for five minutes. Next to it is a drop-off point for other passengers with two minutes’ waiting. That is enough to unload bags, not to wait for someone running late.
For domestic trains from St Pancras. Pancras Road also has a combined drop-off and pick-up point with room for more than five vehicles, and a smaller point at the Pancras Road entrance with space for up to three.
For King’s Cross. Network Rail lists two drop-off-only points on Pancras Road, each with space for up to five vehicles: one on the island area, reached by a zebra-style crossing, and one on the station side of the road.
Tell the operator the exact station and entrance. “St Pancras, Eurostar drop-off on Pancras Road” is much more useful to a driver than “King’s Cross area”.
How do you meet a pre-booked car at St Pancras?
A minicab (private hire vehicle) can’t wait on a taxi rank or pick up passengers who haven’t booked. When you pre-book, the meeting point depends on the operator. The two usual arrangements are:
- Meet inside the station. The driver parks in a car park and meets you on the concourse, often with a name board. St Pancras has a 24-hour station car park on Pancras Road with 315 spaces, and King’s Cross has a short-stay car park near the Pancras Road drop-off, according to Network Rail. Parking charges apply, so ask the operator whether their quote includes them.
- Kerbside pick-up. You walk to an agreed pick-up point, such as the combined Pancras Road point at St Pancras, and the driver pulls in when you’re ready. This is usually quicker, but it relies on clear messages and the driver being able to stop there.
Whichever you choose, follow these steps:
- Give the train details. Include the train number or arrival time and where it’s coming from, so the operator can allow for delays.
- Agree one meeting point in writing. Use the station name, the entrance or road, and a landmark if possible.
- Keep your phone on when you arrive. Drivers usually message with their name, vehicle and where they are.
- Check the car before you get in. The driver and number plate should match your booking confirmation. Our guide on how to book a safe minicab in London explains what to check.
How early should you arrive for Eurostar?
Eurostar’s help centre says Standard and Plus passengers should arrive at the time shown on their ticket. That time allows for ticket, security and border checks, including Entry/Exit System registration where it applies. As of October 2026, Eurostar says ticket checks close:
| Ticket class | Ticket checks close |
|---|---|
| Eurostar Standard or Plus | 30 minutes before departure |
| Eurostar Premier | 15 minutes before departure (priority checks) |
Eurostar warns there can be queues on busy days. Work back from the arrival time on your ticket, not from the departure time:
- Start with the arrival time on your ticket.
- Take off the drive time for your route at that time of day. Allow more in the morning and evening rush hours.
- Add a margin for unloading bags and walking to the gates. Fifteen minutes is sensible with luggage.
If you’re arriving by Eurostar, allow time for the walk from the platform to the street. Follow the taxi signs to the ranks or the exit you agreed with your driver.
Taxi rank, minicab or Underground?
| Option | Best for | Things to know |
|---|---|---|
| Black cab from the rank | No planning; short trips across central London | Metered fare; queues at peak times |
| Pre-booked minicab | Luggage, groups, airports, early departures | Agree the price and meeting point in advance |
| Underground | Travelling light to somewhere near a station | Six lines at King’s Cross St Pancras; harder with heavy bags |

Station to airport: connecting journeys
Many people arriving at St Pancras go straight on to a flight, or the other way round. A pre-booked car is often simplest with luggage, especially to Heathrow or London City. Fares between Heathrow and central London start from £74 for a saloon. This is an indicative figure, and the operator confirms the final price with you.
MinicabTransfer is a fare comparison and referral service. We don’t run cars or employ drivers. You can compare fares and request a quote from TfL-licensed operators, browse the vehicle types they offer, or read about our partner operators. The operator you choose contacts you directly to confirm the price, the vehicle and the meeting point. Our airport transfers page covers every London airport.
