From Luton Airport to London, the fastest route is usually the Luton DART shuttle to Luton Airport Parkway, then a train to St Pancras. The airport says the whole trip can take as little as 32 minutes on the Luton Airport Express, with Thameslink a little slower but running through the night. Coaches are cheaper and go to Victoria, Baker Street and Marble Arch, while a pre-booked car takes around 60 to 75 minutes to central London outside peak hours and goes door to door.
This guide compares those three options for passengers arriving at Luton: how long each takes, where it drops you, how it handles luggage, and what to do if your flight is very early or late. Fares and timetables are as of October 2026 and can change, so check the official links before you travel.

Train and coach times don’t include getting from the station or stop to your final address.
Step one for rail: the Luton DART
Luton Airport doesn’t have a station at the terminal. Instead, the Luton DART, an automated shuttle, links the terminal with Luton Airport Parkway station. According to the airport, as of October 2026:
- Journey time: under four minutes.
- Frequency: every 5 minutes at peak times, every 8 minutes off-peak, and every 15 minutes between 22:00 and 04:00.
- Hours: 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Ticket: a standalone adult single is £4.90. If you book your train to “Luton Airport” (LUA) rather than “Luton Airport Parkway”, one ticket covers both the DART and the train.
It’s a short transfer, but it is a change, so you’ll move your bags twice before you’re on the main train.
Luton Airport Express or Thameslink?
Two train companies run from Luton Airport Parkway into London. The airport’s train guide sets them out as follows, as of October 2026:
Luton Airport Express (East Midlands Railway). Non-stop to St Pancras in about 22 minutes from Parkway. It runs about every 30 minutes, does not run through the night, and starts later on Sundays. Advance fares are listed from £10. See the Luton Airport Express page for first and last trains.
Thameslink. Slower, with intermediate stops, but frequent: about every 10 to 15 minutes in the day, with trains continuing through the night. It runs through St Pancras to Farringdon, City Thameslink, Blackfriars and London Bridge without a change, which is useful if you’re heading to the City or south of the river. Advance fares are listed from £6.50.
Both trains finish on the northern edge of central London (St Pancras) or run through the City. For Mayfair, Knightsbridge or Westminster, you’ll need the Tube or a cab for the last few miles.
Tip: check the DART is on your ticket. The airport lists some rail fares excluding the DART. If you’re unsure, buy the through ticket to “Luton Airport” so you aren’t charged again at the DART gates.
Coaches to Victoria, Baker Street and Paddington
Coaches leave from the bus station right outside the terminal, so there’s no shuttle to catch. As of October 2026 the airport lists:
- National Express A1 and A31: to Victoria Coach Station via Finchley Road, St John’s Wood, Baker Street and Marble Arch.
- National Express A2: to Paddington via Golders Green, Finchley Road, St John’s Wood and Baker Street.
- Greenline 757: to Victoria via Brent Cross, Finchley Road, Baker Street, Marble Arch and Hyde Park Corner. Every 30 minutes in the day and hourly overnight.
The airport says coaches run 24 hours a day and take about 60 to 90 minutes to central London, depending on traffic. It doesn’t list fares on that page, so check National Express or Greenline directly.
The coach suits passengers heading to the west-central stops it serves, such as Marble Arch or Victoria, who don’t mind a longer ride. Cases go in the hold.
Pre-booked car: how the pickup works at Luton
A private hire car runs down the M1 into London. Outside peak hours, allow around 60 to 75 minutes to central London, longer in the rush hour or when the M1 is busy.
The airport has its own rules for where cars can wait, so it helps to know the arrangements:
- Give your flight number when you request a quote, so the operator can track delays.
- Head to the agreed meeting point. The airport’s taxi page directs pre-booked taxis to the Pick Up Zone or a meeting area agreed with the driver. Some operators meet passengers in the arrivals hall; your operator confirms where.
- Expect a zone charge. As of October 2026, the Pick Up Zone costs £9 for up to 12 minutes, then £1 a minute, with a 30-minute maximum. The airport notes that drivers are likely to pass this on, so ask whether the operator’s quote includes it.
If you’re arriving on a private flight through one of Luton’s FBOs, collection arrangements depend on the operator and the handling agent. Mention it in your request.
On MinicabTransfer, fares from Luton Airport to central London start from £119 for a saloon, or from £169 for an MPV. MinicabTransfer compares fares and forwards your quote request; the TfL-licensed operator you choose confirms the final price and terms directly with you. See Luton fares to compare operators. Early flights, late arrivals and delays
Late arrival. Thameslink and the coaches both run overnight, so you won’t be stranded, but services are less frequent and the DART drops to every 15 minutes after 22:00. Arriving at St Pancras or Victoria at 2am still leaves the last leg to sort out.
Early departure. Thameslink’s overnight trains help with very early flights from Luton. If you’re starting from somewhere away from the Thameslink line, though, getting to St Pancras first adds time. A pre-booked car collects from your address at the time the operator agrees.
Delayed flight. With a car, the operator can adjust to your actual landing time if they have your flight number. Free waiting time varies, so confirm it when the operator contacts you.
Which should you choose?
- Travelling light to King’s Cross, the City or London Bridge? Take the train. It’s the quickest option and Thameslink runs all night.
- Heading to Marble Arch, Baker Street or Victoria on a budget? The coach drops you closer, with no changes.
- Carrying several cases, travelling with children, or going somewhere away from a station? A pre-booked car avoids the DART change, the train and the final taxi.
- Two or more people? Compare per person. One car fare can be close to several train tickets plus a cab from St Pancras.
